4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed. (Psalm 34:4-5)
“Ashamed” here means “disappointed at not finding what was hoped for“.
So we can read verse 5 like this: “Those who look to the Lord will never be disappointed by not finding what was hoped for.“
How Is This Possible?
God promises over and over again that He will meet us when we seek Him. Our seeking will always be rewarded.
And what we will discover is that He is good. All the time. We will be blessed when we seek Him.
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:7-11)
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. (James 4:8a)
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33)
I love those who love me,
and those who seek me diligently find me. (Proverbs 8:17)
…you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. (Psalm 9:10b)
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him. (Lamentations 3:25)
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies,
who seek him with their whole heart (Psalm 119:2)
Don’t Give Up Hope
Have you been waiting for a long time? Have you been seeking the Lord for an answer? Have you been waiting for Him to move on your behalf?
Don’t give up! Cling to these promises in His Word. He is faithful. Your searching and waiting will be rewarded. He said so! And He’s a man of His Word.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Romans 5:1-5)
